Emoji Categories

Every emoji in Unicode 17.0.0 belongs to one of nine official groups. Those are listed first and each page is complete. Below them are our curated collections — themed picks that cut across the official groups when you are looking for a feeling or an occasion rather than a category.

Official Unicode groups

Defined by the Unicode standard. Counts exclude skin tone variants, which live on each emoji's own page.

Editor's picks, not a popularity ranking — we do not track what visitors copy.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a category and a collection?

Categories are the nine official groups defined by Unicode — every emoji belongs to exactly one, and the lists are complete. Collections are our own themed selections, useful for finding something quickly but not part of the standard.

Are these lists complete?

The category pages are. They contain every entry Unicode 17.0.0 defines in each group, regenerated whenever the standard updates. Collections are deliberately selective.

Can I search across everything at once?

Yes — the search box in the header searches every emoji, symbol and kaomoji on the site, and runs entirely in your browser.
